The Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs partook in the IHSAA 3A District 1 district tournament on Feb. 3 at Ankeny Centennial.

The top two wrestlers of each weight class in the district tournament became state qualifiers. The Mustangs had 13 wrestlers at the district meet, two of which qualified for the State Wrestling Tournament that begins on Feb. 16.

Zane Mulder placed first in the 152 pound weight class. He beat Sawyer Shaw from Southeast Polk in the semifinal match by fall (1:24). Mulder then place first when he pinned Shawn Brown from Lincoln after 4:19.

Bryce Murano placed second at 138 pounds. In the quarterfinal match, Murano won by an 18-2 technical fall over John King from Lincoln. He won by a 16-5 major decision in the semifinal match over Hunter Ragan from Ankeny. When in the first place match, Murano lost to Nathan Lendt (Southeast Polk) by fall. Murano won the second place match by rule over Ragan.

The two Mustangs will be wrestling in the Class 3A portion of the State Wrestling Tournament that will be starting on Thursday, Feb. 16 at Wells Fargo Arena.
