The 2A session of the State Wrestling Tournament began today (Feb. 16), Adel-DeSoto-Minburn brought two wrestlers for the tournament, as did Van Meter, Woodward-Granger and Perry brought three wrestlers.

The A-D-M Tigers will have both of their wrestlers advance to the quarterfinals tomorrow. Andrew Flora wrestled in the 106 pound weight class. His first match of the tournament was against Bryce Hatten from Winterset. Flora beat Hatten by a 3-0 decision.

Nolan Harsh also wrestled at the State Tournament for the Tigers. He wrestled at 138 pounds against Mitch Van Beek from Central Lyon/George-Little Rock. Harsh won by a 13-7 decision to move on to the Class 2A quarterfinals.

Both of the Van Meter Bulldogs had to wrestled in a second match today, after losing their first and being put into the first consolation round.

Colby Wiederholt wrestled at 106 pounds. Wiederholt took on Brock Beck from Grinell and lost by a 7-5 decision. In his first consolation match, he took on Will Esmoil from West Liberty. Esmoil beat Wiederholt in a 13-2 decision. 

Caleb Button was wrestling at 152 pounds for the Bulldogs. Kade Kelso beat Button in the first match in a 17-0 technical fall. For Button's second match, he wrestled Cody Feldman (Beckman Catholic) and lost by fall in 1:52.

The Perry Bluejays had three wrestlers, two of which will be moving on to the quarterfinals tomorrow.

Kaleb Olejniczak wrestled at 113 pounds and took on Ian Showers (SH-BCLUW). Olejniczak will be moving on to the quarterfinals after beating Showers in a 9-3 decision.

Zachary Thompson will be the second Bluejay moving on to the quarterfinals tomorrow. His first match of the tournament he wrestled Creston Craven from Humboldt whom he pinned in 1:20.

The third Bluejay is Zach Stewart at 132 pounds. Stewart wrestled Ryan Steffen from Crestwood for his first match. Stewart lost by a 3-2 decision to Steffen. For his final match of the first day, Stewart took on Carson Hartnett of Webster City and won by a 7-4 decision.

The Woodward-Granger Hawks brought Austin Scharlau (152), Tanner Vermaas (182) and Cody Fisher (195).

Scharlau lost both of his matches of the day. The first was to Trey Van Weelden from Washington by a 13-0 major decision. In his consolation match, Scharlau lost by 13-4 major decision to Logan Koedam from MOC-Floyd Valley.

Vermaas also lost his first match of the day. Vermaas took on Dalton Rosenburg of South Tama County and lost by a 4-1 decision. In his consolation match Vermaas pinned Austin Angle from Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in 2:16.

Fisher won his first match of the day over Christian Harder (Gilbert) by fall in 2:48. He will now move on to wrestle in the quarterfinals.

These 2A wrestlers will come back at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon to begin the quarterfinal round and the second round of consolations.
