The Waukee Warriors and the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs traveled to Wells Fargo Arena this morning (Feb. 16) for the first round of the State Wrestling Tournament.

The Mustangs and the Warriors wrestled in the Class 3A. The Mustangs brought two wrestlers, Bryce Murano (138) and Zane Mulder (152). The Warriors brought six wrestlers which include Cody Anderson (106), Kyle Biscolgia (113), Brock Parker (145), Anthony Zach (152), Brandon Tessau (182) and Nathan McDonald (285).

Bryce Murano lost his first match of the day. Harlan Steffensmeier was able to beat Murano by a 1-5 technical fall. Murano moved on to the first round of consolation matches and took on Ryker Kurimski from Epworth, Western Dubuque. Murano won the match by a 6-2 decision.

Zane Mulder won his only match of the day. Mulder took on Drake Golinghorst from North Scott. He won the match by fall in 2:45 to move on to the quarterfinals that will take place tomorrow.

Cody Anderson wrestled first of the day for Warriors at 106 pounds. He won his match against Sean Heeney (Sioux City East) by a 7-3 decision. Anderson will wrestle again tomorrow in the quarterfinals.

Kyle Biscolgia will also wrestle in the quarterfinals tomorrow. He pinned Jacob Close from Epworth, Western Dubuque in 5:27.

Brock Parker wrestled at 145 for the Warriors. He lost his first match of the day to Caleb Conway (Marion) by a 1-0 decision. When in the first consolation match, Parker beat Joventay Burris from Waterloo West by a 12-6 decision.

Anthony Zach wrestled in the 152 pound weight class for the Warriors. He won his only match of the day against Jordan Renshaw of Glenwood with a 5-0 decision. Zach will also wrestle in the quarterfinals tomorrow.

At 182 pounds was Brandon Tessau. Tessau lost his first match to Spencer Sherwood from Burlington by fall in 1:39. He then won his second match against Lewis Central's Cameron Moore by a pin in 3:20.

Nathan McDonald won one of his two matches of the day. McDonald lost his first match to Tyler Clark (Clinton) by an 8-2 decision. McDonald won his last match of the day to Levi Brand from Southeast Polk with a pin in 4:30.

The Warriors will have three of their six wrestlers move on to the quarterfinal round tomorrow and the Mustangs will have one of their two. The 3A session will begin at 9:00 a.m.
