Decorah, Iowa – The Luther College women’s soccer team held its annual end of the year celebration Saturday, Feb. 4.

Ellie Bunz, a 2013 graduate of Waukee High School, was honored by her teammates by being named the team’s 2016 offensive MVP and team MVP.

Bunz started every match for the Norse at forward during the 2016 campaign. She led the Norse in scoring producing 12 goals and adding four assists for a total of 28 points.

She completed her career starting 72 of 75 matches. She was credited with 31 goals and 19 assists for 81 points. Her career point total 81 ranks 13th on Luther’s all-time scoring list. Her 31 goals ranks ninth all-time.

The Norse are coached by Russ Schouweiler (76-49-7) just completed his seventh season at the helm of the program. Coach Schouweiler and his staff were also recognized by the IIAC, named Co-Coaching Staff of the Year.

Bunz is the daughter of John and Susan Bunz of Clive, Iowa.

Luther College is a four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the Lutheran Church and is located in Decorah, Iowa. The Norse compete in 10 men's and nine women's intercollegiate sports.

An original member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) since 1922, the Luther men’s teams have won 164 conference championships. In 1982, the IIAC expanded its championship sponsorship to included women’s sports. During this time frame, the women have won 75 championships. Luther is the first school in the Iowa Conference to record an unmatched 239 IIAC titles.
