The West Central Activities Conference has announced their 2017 All-Conference boys basketball selections. The Van Meter Bulldogs had six players recognized.


Ryan Schmitt (sophomore) and Blake Fryar (junior) were both selected as First Team All-Conference team members. Grant Johnson (junior) was recognized on the Second Team All-Conference team. There were three Bulldog honorable mentions: JJ Durflinger (junior), Jack Trudo (junior) and Mitchell Pomeroy (junior).


The six Bulldogs led the team in points. Schmitt was the leading scorer for the Bulldogs this season with 276 points and averaging 11 points per game. Schmitt was followed closely by Fryar with 270 points and a game average of 10.8 points. Pomeroy had 240 points this year, Johnson had 213, Durflinger had 208 and Trudo had 195 points.


Schmitt led in rebounds as well for the season with a total of 167 for the Bulldogs. Johnson was the second leader with 128 rebounds and an average of 5.1 rebounds per game. Trudo had 101 rebounds this season, Pomeroy had 81 and Fryar had 54 rebounds total.


The four leaders of assists this season for the Bulldogs were Durflinger, Johnson, Fryar and Trudo. Durflinger had 77 assists, followed by Johnson with 67, Fryar had 57 and Trudo had 54 assists this year.


Durflinger led the Bulldogs with 30 steals this season. Trudo had the third most steals with a total of 22 on the season. Tied for fourth was Schmitt and Fryar with 21 steals each.


Johnson and Schmitt led the entire Bulldog team in blocks this year. Johnson finished with 69 blocks and Schmitt had 46 at the end of the season.
