The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team saw its record fall to 3-7after the Bears dropped a doubleheader to Northeast Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) March 12 at Miami, Okla.

NEO defeated DMACC 8-6 in the opener and took the nightcap by a 3-0 score.

Sophomore Mike Michalak of Rochester, Minn., hit a two-run home run and sophomore Luke Fegen of West Des Moines and freshman Keil Krumwiede of Glasgow, Mont., also drove in two runs apiece to spark DMACC in the opener. Sophomore Conner Klostermann of Dyersville and freshman Matt Krambeck of Omaha, Neb., led DMACC’s 10-hit attack with two hits apiece.

DMACC trailed 4-0 after two innings, but scored four runs in the top of the third to tie the score. The Bears went ahead 5-4 with a run in the top of the fourth, but NEO got two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to come away with the win.

Sophomore Parker Sanburn of Kokomo, Ind., pitched the first three innings and suffered the loss. He allowed four runs on six hits, struck out two and walked four. Sophomore Jack Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., threw the last three innings, allowing two runs on two hits. He struck out two and walked one.

The Bears were limited to just three hits, singles by Fegen, Michalak and sophomore Chris Witzke of Humboldt, in losing the second game.

NEO took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added an insurance run in the bottom of the second to come away with the win.

Sophomore Malik Moore of Waukee pitched all six innings and suffered the loss. He allowed three runs on seven hits, struck out five and walked one.

The DMACC baseball team will face NEO in another doubleheader today.
