Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball player Molly Jacobsen of Adel has been named to the all-tournament team of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic.
The DMACC softball team competed in the tournament March 10-12 at Columbus, Ga., going 3-2 in five games.
Jacobsen, a freshman, was 1-1 in tournament play. She pitched the Bears to a 7-1 win over John Wood Community College (JWCC) in their tournament opener, allowing just one hit over seven innings. She struck out 11 batters and walked one.
Jacobsen suffered her only tournament loss when Jones County Community College (JCCC), the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II runner-up in 2016, defeated DMACC 5-2 on March 11. Jacobsen pitched all seven innings, allowing five runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts and one walk. Two of the five runs Jacobsen allowed were unearned.
Jacobsen also pitched five innings in a 4-3 win over Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) on March 12 and came away with no decision. She allowed one hit, struck out eight and walked one.
Jacobsen is 6-2 with a 1.07 earned run average in 2017. She was pitched 46 innings and allowed ten runs, seven earned runs, on 21 hits. Jacobsen has recorded 77 strikeouts and issued 12 walks over those 46 innings. She is second nationally in NJCAA Division II in strikeouts and is averaging 11.72 strikeouts a game.
The DMACC softball team opens the home season March 19 against Southeastern Community College (SECC). The doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m. SECC, an NJCAA Division I program, is 14-4 this season.
