Both the Dallas Center-Grimes girls’ and boys’ track team went to the Hugh Norman Relays hosted by Adel-DeSoto-Minburn on Tuesday, April 6.

The Mustangs finished the meet in second place with 142 points and the Fillies placed third with 11.75 team points.

The Mustangs were able to finish first in three events at the invitational as well as place second in six others.

Cade Bertrand was the lone Mustang to finish first in his event. Bertrand ran the 400 meter dash in 53.62 seconds.

The Mustangs 4x200 meter relay and sprint medley teams both placed first. Both teams were made up of Sean Madsen, Nathan Brown, Trey Washington and Thomas Erickson.

The four runners finished the 4x200 in 1:33.60 and finished the sprint medley with a time of 1:39.25.

Tanner Epple placed second in the 200 meter dash when he ran it in 24.28 seconds.

The Mustang to finish second in the 800 meter run was Jared Bravard. Bravard ran the race in 2:08.10.

With a time of 4:42.68, Jacob Waymire placed second in the 1600 meter run.

The 400 meter hurdles was ran by Garrett Skalnik in 59.09 seconds for second place.

Damon Clapper competed in the high jump. Clapper placed second with his jump of 6’2”.

The Mustangs’ shuttle hurdle relay team of Jeff Spaur, Clapper, Skalnik and Jacob Prohaska placed second as well. The four ran the race in 1:01.16.

The Mustangs’ next meet is on Thursday, April 6 in Indianola at 4:30 p.m.

The Fillies had one relay team place first. This was the the sprint medley team made up of Abby Ryan, Ashley Murrow, Abby Weddle, and Tatum Jorgensen. The four finished the race in 1:52.02.

The same relay team placed second in the 4x100 relay with a time of 51.83 seconds.

Jorgensen also ran the 200 meter dash and finished in second place with a time of 26.80 seconds.

In the 1500 meter dash was Brooke Kramer for the Fillies. Kramer placed second with her time of 5:25.43.

Filly Kaitlyn Murano ran the 3000 meter run. She placed second as well when she finished the race with time of 12:00.77.

The Fillies also had many runners finish in third in their races at the invitational.

“It was the first night of competition for many of our girls as the only indoor meet we had was at the beginning of spring break,” said Filly coach Rich Kloster. “I was extremely pleased with our Sprint Medley Relay, their time was fantastic. Senior Tatum Jorgensen had a great night too, running times we usually haven’t seen from her until the end of the past few seasons.”

The Fillies have a meet on Friday, April 7 in Ballard at 5 p.m.
