DMACC softball players Molly Jacobsen and Abby Gehringer earn conference, national player of the week honors
Two members of the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball team, freshmen Molly Jacobsen of Adel and Abby Gehringer of Indianola, have garnered conference and national player honors for the week of April 3-9.
Jacobsen has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time this season and earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season. Jacobsen shared ICCAC pitching honors with Lexi Kinnaird of Kirkwood Community College (KCC).
Gehringer was named the ICCAC DII Softball Player of the Week and also earned the award at the NJCAA Division II level.
Jacobsen and Gehringer bring to four the number of DMACC softball players to have earned ICCAC player of the week honors. Sophomore Kerigan Torres of Des Moines has earned ICCAC Player of the Week honors this season and sophomore Ashley Sicard of Ackley has earned conference pitcher of the week honors.
Jacobsen went 4-0 with an 0.00 earned run average in pitching the Bears to four wins during the week. She recorded 44 strikeouts walked just four batters in pitching 20 total innings. Jacobsen helped her own cause at the plate, hitting .625 with three home runs and seven runs batted in.
For the season, Jacobsen is 15-2 with a 1.03 ERA. She is second nationally to Kinnaird in strikeouts with 161. Jacobsen is hitting .411 with five home runs and 19 RBIs.
Gehringer helped DMACC to an 8-0 record during the week with four home runs, including two grand slam home runs, and 20 RBIs. She leads DMACC in hitting at .506 and is second on the team in home runs with five. Gehringer is also ranked 17th nationally in slugging percentage at .886.
