The Van Meter Bulldogs hosted their coed invitational on Monday, April 17. Both the girls and boys team placed second.

The girls finished the meet with a total of 110.5 points.

Meagan Blomgren helped the Bulldogs finish strong in a few events at the invitational. On her own, Meagan placed first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.28 seconds as well as finishing in first in the long jump with a 16’11.25”.

Along with Mackenzie Blomgren, Olivia Prouty and Cari Walton, Meagan helped the sprint medley team place first with a time of 1:56.72. Lastly, Meagan placed second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.28 seconds.

Mackenzie Roberts was another Bulldog on the girls’ team to place first. Roberts competed in shot put and finished with a throw of 34’7.5”.

Along with Meagan Blomgren, Mackenzie Blomgren competed in the long jump and the 100 meter dash. She finished in second place in the long jump with a jump of 15’5” and fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.49 seconds.

Natalie Barth was the Bulldog to run the 400 meter hurdles. Barth placed second when she ran a time of 1:12.03.

Barth also ran the 100 meter hurdles with teammate Cari Walton. Barth placed fourth with a time of 17.99 seconds and Walton tied for fifth with a time of 17.77 seconds.

Many of the other individuals and teams placed high in the events and the Bulldogs’ invitational.

“This was a great night for our team,” said girls’ coach Bill Miller. “All of our runners and field event people have continued to improve. This past week has been a fun with improvements in every event.”

The boys finished their home invitational with an even 110 team points.

Sam Thompson and Carson Rhodes led the boys’ team on Monday. Both Thompson and Rhodes, along with Carter Coppinger and Ian Abrahamson, ran the 4x100 meter relay. The relay team placed second with a time of 46.57 seconds.

Thompson was also part of the Bulldogs’ shuttle hurdle relay team that placed first. Thompson, Noah Hale, Owen Jones and Tyler Kubiak ran the race in 1:03.69.

On his own, Thompson finished the 110 meter hurdles in 16.42 seconds which put him in first place. Kubiak also ran this race in 17.50 seconds to finish in fourth place.

Lastly, Thompson helped the sprint medley team place fourth with a time of 1:43.57.

Individually, Rhodes placed first in the long jump with a jump of 20’5”. Rhodes also placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.26 seconds and fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.05 seconds.

Bulldog Connor Guess had a 46’7.5” throw in the shot put that allowed him to place first at the meet.

The Bulldogs’ 4x200 and 4x800 relays teams both placed fourth allowing the Bulldogs another ten points. The 4x200 team finished their race in 1:39.17 and the 4x800 team finished with a time of 9:25.84.

“I thought we gave great effort overall,” said boys’ coach Rick Roberts. “With a very young team, only three seniors, we have shown a lot of improvement. Carson Rhodes in the long jump, Sam Thompson in the 110 hurdles and Connor Guess in the shot getting wins was great. If we continue to work hard our improvement will continue.”

Both the Bulldogs girls’ and boys’ teams have a track meet at West Central Valley on Thursday, April 20 at 4:30 p.m.
