The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Tigers hosted Raccoon Rivers Conference rival the Perry Bluejays on Tuesday, May 9. The Bluejays came out with a 2-1 win over the Tigers after an exciting, fast-paced game.
The Bluejays took control of the game right out of the gates. Bluejay Jesus Rodriguez was able to make the first goal of the game with the assistance of Alexis Macias just seven minutes into the first half. The Tigers were then able to pick their game back up, but weren’t able to tie it up before the end of the half.
The Tigers’ speed helped them in the second half. The Tigers dominated the beginning which allowed them to hold possession of the ball and create multiple scoring opportunities.
Just three minutes into the half the Tigers passed the ball down the field a couple times before Davis Barton took control of the ball. Barton drove past the Bluejays and crossed the ball into the penalty area where it was sent to Eli Schwarzkopf. Schwarzkopf then sent the ball up high into the net and tied the game 1-1.
After the goal, the Bluejays’ keeper, Anthony Aragon was able to shut out the several chances that the Tigers had for another scoring opportunity.
The Tigers gave the Bluejays a free kick 15 minutes into the second half. After the kick, Macias sent a high pass over to Anthony Velasco who sent a header into the goal. The Bluejays led once more.
Just as before, the Tigers led the rest of the half creating multiple scoring opportunities but failed to get another ball past Aragon.
“A great game,” exclaimed Bluejay coach Gary Overla. “Tons of action and lots of scoring opportunities that were turned away by both goalies and defenses. It truly was a fun game to be involved with. Win, lose, or draw those are the kind of games that everybody wants to play in. Great atmosphere, great competition. Well played by both sides.”
The tenth ranked Tigers fell to the Bluejays 2-1 and will be hosting Bondurant-Farrar on Thursday, May 11 at 7:00 p.m.
