The Van Meter Bulldogs boys’ track team finished with 64 points for fifth placed at the Hap Merritt Invitational in Guthrie Center on Monday, May 8.


Sam Thompson, Jack Trudo and Connor Guess all finished their individual events in second place. Thompson ran the 110 meter hurdles for the Bulldogs and finished with his time of 15.94 seconds. Trudo ran the 3200 meter run in 10:51.43. Connor Guess competed in the shot put event, he finished with a throw of 51’1.5”.


The Bulldogs’ shuttle hurdle team of Thompson, Noah Hale, Owen Jones and Tyler Kubiak also placed second at the invitational. The four runners finished the relay in 1:02.55.


Carson Rhodes competed in the long jump for the Bulldogs. He placed fourth with his jump of 19’1.25”


Anthony Pottoff and Owen Jones tied in the high jump. Both Bulldogs finished with a jump of 5’6”.


John Richard ran the 400 meter dash. He finished the race in 56.59 seconds and placed fifth. Sam Bass ran the 800 meter run for the Bulldogs. Bass also placed fifth in his race with his time of 2:12.21.


Rhodes also ran the 100 meter dash, in which he finished in sixth place with a time of 11.79 seconds.


The Bulldogs’ 4x200, 4x400 and sprint medley relay teams also finished in sixth place. The 4x200 team finished the race in 1:39.60, the 4x400 team ran a time of 3:46.56 and the sprint medley team finished in 1:45.01.


The Bulldogs have their State Qualifying meet tonight, May 11 at Panorama at 4:00 p.m.
