On Thursday, May 11, the Van Meter Bulldogs and the Woodward-Granger Hawks track teams competed at the State Qualifying Track meet held in Panorama. Both the Bulldogs and Hawks had athletes qualify for the State Meet.
The Van Meter Bulldogs qualified for a combined 10 events at the State Meet.
Carson Rhodes ran the 100 meter dash for the boys’ team. Rhodes finished in third place with a time of 11.51 seconds.
Sam Thompson qualified in the 110 meter hurdles at the State Qualifying meet in Panorama with his time of 15.56 seconds.
Rhodes and Connor Guess both qualified for field events. Rhodes qualified with his jump of 20 feet, 2 inches in the long jump. Guess had a throw of 54 feet, 6.5 inches in the shot put and placed first in the event.
The boys’ shuttle hurdle team of Thompson, Noah Hale, Owen Jones and Tyler Kubiak ran a 1:01.26 to finish in first place to qualify.
Mackenzie Blomgren and Meagan Blomgren were two individuals to qualify for the State Meet for the girls’ team. Both girls will be running the 100 meter dash. Mackenzie Blomgren finished in second place and Meagan placed third. Mackenzie Blomgren will also be running the 200 meter dash. Meagan will be headed back to Drake for the long jump after qualifying with a jump of 17 feet, 5.25 inches. Mackenzie Blomgren also qualified with her jump of 16 feet, 5.5 inches.
Mackenzie Roberts in the third individual to qualify for the Bulldogs’ girls’ team. Roberts qualified in the shot put with her throw of 36 feet, 3 inches.
The Bulldogs sprint medley team also qualified when they placed third with their time of 1:54.60.
The Woodward-Granger Hawks only qualified for two events at the State Meet.
Emma Drake was the only individual Hawk to qualify on Thursday. Drake will be running the 800 meter run at the State Meet after qualifying with a time of 2:26.48.
The Hawks’ girls’ 4x800 relay team of Katelyn Peters, Anna Tague, Natalie Helbling and Drake ran the race in 10:35.41 for their second place finish.
The State Track Meet begins on Thursday, May 18 at 9 a.m.
