The Waukee Warriors track teams ran at the State Qualifying Track meet in Council Bluffs on Thursday, May 11. Both Wariror teams will be competing in all but one event each at the Blue Oval.


The girls’ will be competing in 18 events, nine of which have two individuals competing.


Emma Schossow will be the one Warrior to run the 100 meter dash. The two girls that can be seen running the 400 meter dash at the State Meet will be JanJay Peters and Amy Wieland.


Both Lily Campbell and Logan Akason will be running the 800 meter race at the State Meet. Campbell finished the race in first place and Akason placed second.


Akason also ran the 1500 meter run, in which she finished first to qualify. Sydney Schaffer also qualified for the State Meet when she placed second.


Schaffer will also be running the 3200 meter run after she qualified when she placed third on Thursday. Karson Foley will be running the race alongside Schaffer as well.


Hannah Schau and Sydney Winger will be running the 100 meter hurdles for the Warriors. Kate Bannister and Mary Gray will be the two to run the 400 meter hurdles.


The Warriors will be running all seven of the relay races on the Blue Oval, each of the relays placed first at the qualifying meet in Council Bluffs.


The duo of Kat Moody and Moe Nealey will be returning to the Drake Stadium to compete in the shot put. Moody also qualified for discus.


Peters also qualified for her the long jump event when she placed second with a jump of 16 feet, 1.75 inches.


The Waukee boys’ team also qualified for 18 of the 19 events.


Dan Blocker will be seen running in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash. Blocker placed first at the qualifying meet in Council Bluffs on Thursday. DJ Moffitt will also be running the 200 meter dash for the Warriors.


Josh Andrews will also be running two individual races. Andrews qualified in the 400 meter dash and the 800 meter run. Zach Eaton will also be running the 400 meter dash alongside Andrews.


The two Warriors to qualify for the 1600 were Izaak Dixon and Jackson Lewis. Lewis will also be running the 3200 meter run at the State Meet after placing third at the qualifying meet. Warrior Nathan Sanders will also be running the 3200 meter race.


Tyler Groathouse and Nolan Roethler were the two Warriors to qualify for the 400 meter hurdles.


The boys also qualified all seven of the Warriors’ relay teams. The 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 all placed first, the shuttle hurdle and sprint medley teams finished in second place and the distance medley team place third to qualify.


Zach Morrison, Jacob Wiggins, Ryan Keck, Owen Minshall, Jacob Cubacub and Chase Boland all qualified for field events. Morrison and Wiggins will be competing in discus. Wiggins will also be competing in shot put, as will Boland. Keck and Minshall will be in the high jump and Cubacub will be competing in the long jump.


The State Track Meet begins on Thursday, May 18 at 9 a.m.
