The Dallas Center-Grimes track teams traveled to Drake Stadium last weekend, May 18-20 for the 2017 State Track Meet.
The Mustangs claimed State Championships in many of their races.
The Mustangs’ 4x200 meter relay team of Sean Madsen, Thomas Erickson, Trey Washington and Cade Bertrand ran the race in 1:29.82 and placed first.
The Mustangs’ 4x100 meter relay team also placed first. Madsen, Rancy Freeman, Nathan Brown and Washington finished the race in 42.65 seconds.
Washington also competed in the long jump. With his jump of 22 feet, three inches, he placed second at the State Meet on Friday.
Freeman ran the 100 and 200 meter dash for the Mustangs. Freeman placed third in both races. He ran the 100 meter dash in 11.28 seconds and the 200 meter dash in 22.78 seconds.
Damon Clapper, Garrett Skalnik, Jeff Spaur and Jacob Prohaska made up the Mustangs’ shuttle hurdle relay team, The four hurdlers finished the race in 58.79 seconds which put them in fourth place.
The Mustangs’ 4x800 meter relay team place ninth overall. Steve Borneman, Jared Bravard, Dakota Belling and Trenton Meggers ran the race in 8:17.22.
Skalnik ran the 400 hurdles for the Mustangs, he placed tenth with his time of 56.14 seconds.
The boys’ sprint medley team of Madsen, Freeman, Bertrand and Washington placed 12th at the meet with their time of 1:37.29.
Coty Lemon and Jacob Comer both competed in the shot put for the Mustangs. Lemon placed 12th with his throw of 49 feet, seven inches and Comer placed 13th with his throw of 49 feet and one quarter inch.
Jacob Waymire and Brian Miner were the two Mustangs to run the 3200 meter race. Waymire finished in 16th with his time of 10:02.76 and Miner placed 20th with his time of 10:09.03. Waymire also ran the 1600 meter run, in which he placed 16th as well. Waymire finished the race in 4:35.32.
Prohaska ran the 110 meter hurdles for the Mustangs. He barely missed qualifying for the final race when he placed ninth in the preliminaries with a time of 15.34 seconds. Clapper also race this race, he finished in 13th with a time of 15.64 seconds.
The Mustangs 4x400 relay team also missed qualifying for the final race when they placed 18th with their time of 3:30.54.
The Mustangs were able to place third at the State Meet with a total of 45 points.
Sarah Frett led the Fillies when she placed sixth in the long jump. Frett finished the event with a jump of 16 feet 7.5 inches.
The Fillies’ 4x100 relay team also placed sixth. Abby Ryan, Abby Weddle, Ashley Murrow and Tatum Jorgensen ran the race in 50.83 seconds.
Jorgensen also ran the 400 meter dash. She placed ninth with her time of 59.34 seconds.
Ryan, Murrow, Weddle and Jorgensen also made up the sprint medley team. The four Fillies finished the race with a time of 1:52.05 and placed 12th.
Carsyn Vance ran in the 100 meter hurdles for the Fillies. She placed 13th in the preliminary race with a time of 15.98 seconds.
Jorgense also ran the 200 meter dash for the Fillies. She finished the preliminaries in 16th with her time of 26.27 seconds.
Abby Ryan ran a time of 12.93 seconds in the 100 meter dash preliminary race and placed 20th.
The Fillies’ placed 21st in the shuttle hurdle relay preliminary race with a time of 1:11.81.
The Fillies’ 4x200 relay team was disqualified.
The Fillies were not able to place at the State Meet.
