The Van Meter Bulldogs track teams competed in several events at the State Track Meet this past weekend (May 18-20).
Mackenzie and Meagan Blomgren led the Bulldogs’ girls’ team. The sisters competed in both the long jump and the 100 meter dash.
Meagan Blomgren placed sixth in the long jump with her jump of 16 feet 7.75 inches and Mackenzie Blomgren placed 19th with 15 feet 1.75 inches.
In the 100 meter dash, Mackenzie Blomgren placed sixth with her time of 13.13 seconds and Meagan Blomgren placed eighth with a time of 13.16 seconds.
The two Blomgren girls also ran as part of the Bulldogs’ sprint medley team. Mackenzie Blomgren, Taylor Drummond, Natalie Barth and Meagan Blomgren finished the race in 14th place with a time of 1:54.50.
Mackenzie Roberts competed in the shot put, she had a 35 foot 8.5 inch throw for 13th place.
Meagan Blomgren also ran the 200 meter dash for the Bulldogs. She just missed qualifying for the finals when she placed ninth in the preliminary race with a time of 26.28 seconds.
The Bulldogs’ boys’ shuttle hurdle team of Sam Thompson, Noah Hale, Owen Jones and Casey O’Brien placed eighth at the State Meet with their time of 1:02.78.
Connor Guess had a throw of 49 feet, and one half inch in the shot put for the Bulldogs. He placed 15th at the meet.
Carson Rhodes competed in the long jump, he placed 18th overall with a jump of 18 feet, 10 inches.
Thompson ran the 110 meter hurdles for the Bulldogs. Thompson placed 17th in the preliminaries with his time of 15.73 seconds.
Rhodes also ran the 100 meter dash in which he placed 18th in the preliminary race with a time of 11.54 seconds.
The Woodward-Granger Hawks only sent four athletes to the State Track Meet.
Emma Drake was the only Hawk to qualify for an individual event. Drake ran the 800 meter run, in which she placed 11th with a time of 2:25.13.
The Hawks’ girls’ 4x800 relay team of Drake, Katelyn Peters, Anna Tague and Natalie Helbling placed 23rd with their time of 10:33.45.
