Both of the Waukee Warriors track teams ran at the State Track Meet last weekend (May 18-20), both teams placed in Class 4A.
The Warriors’ boys’ team finished in second place with their team total of 69 points.
Josh Andrews was the only individual on the boys’ team to place first. Andrews ran the 800 meter run and finished with a time of 1:54.31.
Andrews spoke about how it felt to go from being a Drake Relays champion just three weeks ago to a State Champion.
“You just got to trust your training,” said Andres, “trust your coaches and I’m blessed to have the best coaches in the state to get us there. It’s just mental, you just got to keep pushing once you hit that 600 mark, you’ve got to give it all you got.”
The Warriors’ 4x800 team placed first as well. The boys’ finished the race with a time of 7:49.34.
Andrews also ran the 400 meter dash. He placed second in the race with his time of 48.64 seconds. Zach Eaton ran the 400 meter dash as well, he placed 12th with a time of 50.45 seconds.
Owen Minshall and Ryan Keck both competed in the high jump. Minshall placed second with his jump of six feet, five inches and Keck placed eighth with a jump of six feet, two inches.
The Warriors’ distance medley team placed third at the State Meet. The four runners ran the race in 3:29.78.
Jacob Wiggins placed fourth in the shot put with his throw of 53 feet, 9.25 inches.
Dan Blocker ran 200 meter dash for the boys’, he placed fifth with his time of 22.63 seconds.
The sprint medley team finished fifth place as well with their time of 1:32.98.
The Warriors’ shuttle hurdle team finished in seventh place with their time of 59.01 seconds. The 4x200 relay team placed eighth with their time of 1:29.29.
Wiggins and Zach Morrison competed in discus for the boys’ team. Wiggins had a throw of 158 feet, seven inches and Morrison threw 153 feet seven inches.
The two Warriors to run the 400 meter hurdles was Tyler Groathouse and Nolan Roethler. Groathouse placed ninth with his time of 55.50 seconds and Roethler finished in 20th with a time of 57.34 seconds.
Jackson Lewis placed tenth in the 1600 meter race. He ran a time of 4:25.73. Izaak Dixon also ran the race, he finished with a time of 4:36.64 for 22nd.
Lewis also ran the 3200 meter run, he placed 17th in the race with a time of 9:48.39. Nathan Sanders ran the 3200 meter run as well, he finished in 23rd with a time of 9:59.51.
Jacob Cubacub had a jump of 20 feet 3.75 inches in the long jump allowing him to finish in 17th.
The Warriors placed tenth in the 4x400 preliminary race with their time of 3:22.30 seconds. They also place 12th in the 4x100 preliminaries when they ran it in 43.20 seconds.
