Twenty members of the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball team were named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic All-Region XI Team announced May 23.
DMACC players named to the first team included: freshman Cheyann Adams of Riverside; sophomore Ryanna Bales of Mason City; freshman Taylor Briley of Creston; sophomore Claire Dudek of Urbandale; freshman Abigail Gehringer of Indianola; sophomore Cassie Harrington of Des Moines; freshman Molly Jacobsen of Adel; freshman Jaime Jordan of Martensdale; freshman Autumn McDanel of Moravia; freshman Bailey Richards of Des Moines; sophomore Sydney Robertson of Vinton; freshman Gabrielle Schnathorst of Carlisle; sophomore Mackenzie Sutton of Adel; and sophomore Kerigan Torres of Des Moines.
Second team honors went to; sophomore Taylor Creason of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; freshman Breanna Hunter of Boone; freshman Alexandra Killinger of Treynor; sophomore Kristen Raymond of Madrid; sophomore Megan Rushing of West Des Moines; and sophomore Ashley Sicard of Ackley.
In addition to achieving high academic honors, the DMACC softball team finished the season with a 47-9 record, including a 24-2 mark in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) where the Bears tied Kirkwood Community College (KCC) for the league championship. The DMACC softball team, ranked fifth in the final Division II poll from the NJCAA, qualified for the NJCAA Division II Softball Championship for the fourth consecutive year and the fifth time in the past six years. The Bears defeated MercyHurst Northeast (Penn.) Community College (MNCC) in their tournament opener and then dropped back-to-back games to LSU-Eunice (LSUE) and Kankakee Community College (KCC) and were eliminated from further tournament play.
