The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has named five members of the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball team to the NFCA National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II All-Region Midwest Team.

DMACC players named to the team include freshman Molly Jacobsen of Adel and sophomores Claire Dudek of Urbandale, Megan Rushing of West Des Moines, Kerigan Torres of Des Moines and Kenzi Sutton of Adel. Jacobsen was named to a pitching position, Dudek and Rushing were named to infield positions, Torres was honored as an outfielder and Sutton as a utility player.

Jacobsen compiled a 25-4 record and a 1.08 earned run average during the 2017 season. She finished third nationally in wins, second in earned run average and second in strikeouts with 273. Jacobsen, who averaged 11.22 strikeouts a game, pitched 170 and a third innings, allowing 38 runs, 28 earned runs, on 105 hits. She walked 37 batters and received five of the eight first-place votes for the best player in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

Jacobsen was also a key offensive player for the Bears, hitting .398 with an on-base percentage of .449 and a slugging percentage of .670. She had 35 hits in 88 at-bats, including nine doubles and five home runs. She drove in 23 runs and scored 21 runs.

Dudek, a second-team All-American, hit .440 with on on-base percentage of .504 and a slugging percentage of .591. She had 85 hits in 193 at-bats, including 11 doubles, six triples and two home runs. She drove in 41 runs and led the Bears in runs scored with 70. Dudek ended the season ranked sixth nationally in stolen bases with 49.

Rushing recorded 46 hits, including 13 doubles, a triple and seven home runs in 2017. She hit .346 with a .457 on-base percentage and a .617 slugging percentage. Her 46 hits came from 133 at-bats and she finished the season with 42 runs scored and 36 runs batted in.

Torres led DMACC in hits with 82. She compiled a .453 batting average with a .500 on-base percentage and a .503 slugging percentage. Her 82 hits included five doubles and two triples. Torres finished second on the team in runs scored with 53, drove in 29 runs and stole 28 bases.

Sutton batted .410 with a .467 on-base percentage and a .681 slugging percentage this past season. A returning All-American, Sutton ended the season with 77 hits in 188 at-bats, including 16 doubles, a triple and a team-leading 11 home runs. She also led the Bears in RBIs with 73 and scored 46 runs.

The DMACC softball team ended the 2017 season with a 47-9 record, including three winning streaks of seven games or more and a 24-game winning streak late in the season. The Bears tied Kirkwood Community College (KCC) for the regular season championship in the ICCAC with a 24-2 record. The Bears won the NJCAA Region XI-A championship and the NJCAA District G title to advance to the NJCAA DII Softball Championship for the fourth consecutive season and the fifth time in the past six seasons
