The Van Meter Bulldogs’ baseball team holds their undefeated season after a 6-5 victory over the Madrid Tigers on Tuesday, June 13.
The Bulldogs and Tigers were tied 2-2 until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Bulldogs scored their final four runs. The Tigers were able to hold on until the seventh inning when they score three runs to end the game just one run short.
Carson Rhodes led the Bulldogs with one hit, which was a triple, for his one run. Rhodes had three RBIs as well. Kaleb Booge also had one run for the Bulldogs, of his three hits, two were doubles.
Anthony Lowman, Sam Thompson, Connor Guess and Brady O’Brien each had one hit. Thompson and O’Brien were the only two to have RBIs.
Lowman, Thompson and Guess also had one run each for the Bulldogs. Drew Gordon also had one of the Bulldogs six runs after he was walked to base.
Bulldog pitchers Mitch Pomeroy and Owen Crawford each had three strikeouts. Pomeroy finished with an ERA of 1.75 and Crawford had an ERA of 0.00.
Tiger Nolan Owensby led the team with three hits and one RBI. Owensby was followed by Logan Wicker who had two hits and two RBIs and Colton Lowe had one hit and two RBIs.
Landen Klatt, Eli Gruefe, Cole Shannon, Braden Gibbons and Wyatt Smith all had one hit each.
The Tigers’ five runs came from Klatt, Bryce Dean (who was walked to base), Owensby, Gruefe and Shannon.
The Bulldogs won by one run (6-5) and now have a 13-0 record. The Bulldogs will be playing a double header Thursday, June 15 at Woodward Academy at 3:15 p.m.
