The Waukee Warriors softball team played the Council Bluffs, Thomas Jefferson Yellowjackets on July 8 for the Region 1 Semifinal game. The Warriors dominated the Yellowjackets 11-0 in just five innings.


Grace Foxen led the game for the Warriors with her home run from one hit. Foxen also had three RBIs for the Warriors. Molly Platte followed Foxen with two hits and one RBI. Platte also scored one run against the Yellowjackets.


Logan Akason led in runs for the Warriors. Akason finished the game with three of the Warriors 11 runs as well as having one hit and was also walked to base once. Delaney Taylor was the second leading scorer for the Warriors. Taylor scored two runs and had two hits off the Yellowjackets.


Kelli Fogt, Mary Gray, Grace Clouser and Kelsey Rincon each scored one run for the Warriors.


The Warriors’ pitcher Sarah Schaefer finished the game with four hits, three of which were doubles. She also had six of the team’s 11 RBIs. Schaefer pitched a no hitter in the five innings and threw five strikeouts.


The Warriors remain ranked number one in Class 5A with a record of 33-3. The Warriors will be playing Ottumwa tonight, July 11 at 7:00 p.m. at home for the Regional Championship.
