The regular season is officially over, and postseason has just begun. The Dallas County teams are preparing to fight their way through, all with goals to make it to State.


Van Meter


The Van Meter Bulldogs already began districts earlier this week (Tuesday). Playing in the Class 2A District 14, the Bulldogs kicked off postseason play with a 5-0 victory over Collins-Maxwell-Baxter in the semifinals.


The Bulldogs ended the regular season with a 27-4 record and tied for West Central Activities Conference Champion with Woodward-Granger.


Anthony Lowman was the leading pitcher for the Bulldogs with a record of 5-0 on the season. He finished the year with an ERA of 1.33 in the 26.333 innings he pitched and had 32 strikeouts.


Lowman also led the team offensively with a batting average of .494. He finished the season with 39 hits, one of the team’s two home runs and 30 RBIs. He also led the Bulldogs with 47 runs scored. As a team, the Bulldogs recorded a batting average of .359, had 315 hits on the season and 292 RBIs.


The District Championship game will be on Saturday, July 15 in Van Meter, the Bulldogs will be playing Roland-Story.


Adel-DeSoto-Minburn


This season had been much better than the last for the A-D-M Tigers. The Tigers will go into their first District game on Friday with a season record of 18-13.


Just like last season the Tigers head into postseason after ending the regular season with a loss on Tuesday to Pella, nonetheless.


Kade Overton started as pitcher eight times for the Tigers and had a 5-3 record. Overton ended the season with an ERA of 5.34 after pitching 39.333 innings, he also struck out 48 batters.


Overton also had a batting average of .392 to lead the Tigers. He had 40 hits for the Tigers, one home run, 21 RBIs and scored 32 runs. The Tigers’ ended the season with a .287 batting average and 245 hits and five home runs. The Tigers also recorded 155 RBIs.


The Tigers will be playing the in the 3A District 15 Quarterfinals in Harlan against Greene County on July 14 at 7:00 p.m. If the Tigers win the game, they will move on to the championship to play either Harlan or Carroll on July 17.


Dallas Center-Grimes


This Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs are having a tough season this year with a 10-20 record. Even with this rough record, the Mustangs will be heading into the postseason on a good note after beating Ballard in their final regular season game.


Brett Foreman finished the regular season with a 3-2 pitching record. Foreman pitched 28.333 innings for the Mustangs and finished with an ERA of 3.46 and struck out 28 batters.


With a batting average of .340, Cade Bertrand leads the Mustangs this season. After starting each game, he has had 34 hits, 14 RBIs and scored 15 runs. As a whole, Tigers’ ended the season with a .255 batting average and 205 hits and recorded 100 RBIs.


The Mustangs will be playing the in the 3A District 14 Quarterfinals against North Polk on July 14 at 7:00 p.m. in Alleman. The Mustangs could play either Perry or Boone on July 17 in the District Championship if they win the game.


Waukee


Unfortunately, the Waukee Warriors will be headed into Substate after a loss in the final regular season game, which broke a six-game winning streak. Even with the loss, the Warriors ended with a strong season record of 26-13.


Drew Irvine was the Warriors starting pitcher for nine games, he recorded a season record of 6-2 with an ERA of 1.46. Irvine pitched 48 innings and struck out 34 batters.


Tyrese Moore and Jake Morrison led the Warriors in batting average. Moore finished this season with a .348 and Morrison had a .337. Moore finished the regular season with 40 hits, 15 RBIs and scored 20 runs. Morrison had 31 hits, four of the team’s home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 16 runs.


As a team, the Warriors had a batting average .296. The Warriors also had 314 hits, 11 home runs, 160 RBIs and scored 217 runs this year.


The Warriors will be playing Council Bluffs, Thomas Jefferson in Waukee on July 14 for the chance to go to the State Baseball Tournament.
