The 2017 baseball season has officially come to a close and the All-State and All-District have been announced.

The Iowa Newspaper Association announced its 2017 All-State Baseball selections August 1, selecting first, second and third teams for classes 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A.

Dallas County had four athletes recognized on the All-State teams.

Waukee had two of their players on the Class 4A Third Team. Pitcher Drew Irvine and outfielder Tyrese Moore were the two Waukee selections.

Irvine finished the season with a 9-2 record, had 46 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.13. He also had a batting average of .221 and scored eight runs. Moore finished the year with a batting average of .339, 16 RBIs and scored 22 runs.

Van Meter and Woodward-Granger each had one athlete on the Class 2A All-State team.

Van Meter’s Anthony Lowman was recognized as a Second Team All-State selection as an infielder. Lowman finished the year with a batting average of .466, 31 RBIs and scored a whopping 50 runs. While pitching, he had a 6-1 record, struck out 47 batters and had an ERA of 1.88.

Woodward-Granger’s utility, Spencer Hanson, was also a Second Team selection. The senior ended his season with a batting average of .449, 38 RBIs and scored 36 runs. As a pitcher, Hanson ended the year with a 10-1 record, 70 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.06.


The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association has also announced their All-District selections for each class. The Dallas County area had several athletes chosen in their respective classes.

There were an amazing ten players in Class 2A chosen for All-District.

Van Meter had five athletes chosen for the Central District All-District teams. The three players on the First Team were Mitch Pomeroy, Lowman and Sam Thompson. Van Meter’s catcher Carson Rhodes and outfielder Connor Guess were chosen as Second Team selections.

Woodward-Granger also had five selected for All-District. Seniors Brady Aunspach, Hanson and Matt Rhodes were the First Team selections. The two Second Team selections were Cole Theisen and Reece Jamison.

In Class 3A, Dallas County had five players on the Southwest District teams.

Adel-DeSoto-Minburn had four of the athletes. Catcher Nick Lindgren and utility Kade Overton were First Team All-District selections. Jack O’Brien, short stop, and outfielder Dalton Hews were chosen as Second Team All-District selections.

Justin Biegger is the only player from Dallas Center-Grimes. He was chosen as a Second Team All-District member.

Waukee had three members chosen for the Class 4A North Central All-District teams. Fischer Henderson and Moore were both First Team selections and Irvine was the Second Team selection.
