The Waukee Warriors softball team finished the season as State Runners-Up when they lost to Pleasant Valley (8-2) in the State Softball Championship on July 21. The Warriors ended their strong season with a 40-4 record.

According to, sophomore Delaney Taylor ended the season with 68 hits to lead the Warriors, she also scored 55 runs and one home run. Taylor had 26 RBIs on the season as well and finished the year with a 0.439 batting average.

Sarah Schaefer had 62 hits last season. She scored 21, as well as ten home runs allowing her to have 57 RBIs. Schaefer finished the 2017 season with a batting average of 0.459.

Morgan Nealey followed Schaefer with 61 hits, she also had 17 runs and scored a whopping 11 home runs. Nealey led the team with 64 RBIs and had a batting average of 0.449 to end the year.

Shaefer was also the leading pitcher for the Warriors. She started 25 games and ended the year with a 25-1 record. Schaefer pitched 169.33 innings throughout the entire season, striking out 199 batters and finishing with an ERA of 0.66.
