The Waukee boys’ basketball team saw a streak of six straight wins come to an end against the Ankeny Hawks on Friday, Feb. 2. The Warriors (15-3) fell to the Hawks (6-11) on the road by a score of 58-52.

The Hawks have now won five out of their last six games after losing 10 out of their first 11 games to start the season, including a 70-65 loss against the Warriors in Waukee on Jan. 5.

The first two quarters went back and forth as the Hawks held a 13-8 lead after the first quarter, but Waukee holding a 22-21 lead at halftime. The Hawks then outscored the Warriors 16-14 in the third quarter and 21-16 in the fourth.

Waukee senior Nathan Nelson led the Warriors with 15 points and seven rebounds on a 5-for-6 shooting performance. He also pulled down seven rebounds and recorded one assist.

Jaxx Rittman was also in double figures in scoring, shooting 3-for-7 for 14 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists.

Dylan Jones and Nathan Johnson tied for the team lead with eight rebounds each. Jones was also 6-for-7 shooting with 12 points, while adding four blocks. Johnson led the Warriors with five assists.

The Hawks were 18-of-40 from the field and 8-of-19 from long range. Dillon Carlson led the team with 19 points while freshman Jeron Crews added 10 points of his own.

After taking on Des Moines Hoover on the road on Tuesday, the Warriors will host Ankeny Centennial on Friday, Feb. 9 at Waukee Field House. The game tips off at 7:45 p.m., following the girls’ game.
