The Dallas Center-Grimes girls’ basketball team held a 35-33 lead going into the fourth quarter against the Pella Lady Dutch, but were outscored 21-9 in the fourth quarter as the Lady Dutch took a 54-44 win at home on Friday, Feb. 9.
The Fillies (13-8) were 17-of-51 from the floor and 7-of-28 from long range while the Lady Dutch (14-7) were 17-of-45 from the field and 7-of-19 on 3-point attempts. The Lady Dutch also had an advantage on the boards, outrebounding the Fillies 42-28.
The Fillies had a big night out of senior Jenna Borchers, who went 8-for-12 from the floor and 4-of-6 from long range for 20 points. She also had six rebounds and three assists and two steals.
DC-G sophomore Jordan Cunningham led the Fillies with seven rebounds on top of eight points. Elizabeth Elfvin scored nine points and tied for the team lead with Borchers with three assists.
The Lady Dutch had three players in double figures in the scoring column. Erica Bossard scored 16 points, Chloe Van Vliet scored 13 and Emily Holterhaus scored 11. Holterhaus completed a double-double with 14 rebounds.
The Fillies will play next in the Regional Semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 17 in their home gym in Grimes. They will play the winner of Bondurant-Farrar and Perry, who played in Wednesday night.
The Fillies have not played against Bondurant-Farrar this season, and dominated Perry 50-14 back on Dec. 5, 2017.
