Some of the best high school boys track stars from across the state of Iowa flocked to the Lied Center in Ames yesterday for the 25th annual Iowa State Boys High School Classic.

Among all the teams in attendance included last years’ state runner up in the Waukee Warriors. Coach Brent Heitland and his squad put on quite the show in the final meet of the indoor season by posting 12 top twenty finishes and nine top ten finishes. Of the top ten finishes for the Warriors, six where in individual events while three where in the relay events.

Individually, the Waukee was paced by a first place finish by senior Wilson Lenerz in the high jump thanks to a final jump of six feet, two inches. Fellow Warrior Sammuel Isaak also placed inside the top ten in the long jump with an eight eighth place finishing jump of five feet ten inches.

Out of a 100 runner field in the 60 meter hurdles, Waukee senior Tyler Williams took third place overall with a final time of 8.61 seconds. Junior Travis Loecke’s time of 4:38.52 in the 1600 meter run earned him a sixth place finish while fellow junior Kahlil Hicks-Jumper’s time of 7.28 seconds in the 60 meter dash earned him an eighth place finish. The individual top ten finishers for the Warriors was rounded out with Mason Hale in the shot put event where the junior finished ninth with a toss of 46’-09.75”.

The team relay events also proved to be fruitful for the Warriors with the 4x400 meter relay invitational team taking third place, the 4x800 meter relay team taking sixth, while the 1600 Sprint Medley team took the cake with a first place finish.

Next up for the Warriors will be the start of the outdoor season and they’ll do so in the friendly confines of Waukee stadium on Thursday, March 22. There the Warriors will be entertaining a six team field including Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson, Des Moines Hoover, Des Moines Lincoln, Mason City, and Des Moines North beginning at 4:00 pm.
