The season officially opened up for the Van Meter girls track and field team Tuesday afternoon in the Earlham Early Bird Invitational.
Natalie Barth paced the pack individually for the Bulldog girls notching a first place time of 1:12.60 in the 400 meter hurdles. Barth also raced her way into a second place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.38 seconds.
Another second place finisher for Van Meter was Meagan Blomgren who did so in the long jump event with a mark of 16 feet (16’-00.50”).
The relay events provided great sparks for Van Meter as the 800 sprint medley, 4x100 shuttle hurdle, and 4x400 meter relay teams all earned second place finishes. The 4x400 meter relay team consisted of Emma Braun, Meagan Blomgren, Emily Roberts, and Natalie Barth. The 800 sprint medley team for Van Meter consisted of Livi Hausher, Josey Durflinger, Lilly Thompson, and Natalie Barth. Finally, the 4x100 meter shuttle hurdle team included Cari Walton, Aubrey Artzer, Jenna Schlueter, and Abby Archer.
Next up for the Waukee girls include a road trip to Clarke High School Thursday. First meet events will kick things off at 4:30 pm.
