Despite a furious comeback Monday night, the Dallas Center-Grimes boys’ soccer team fell short against former conference rival A-D-M in Adel by a 4-3 final.

It was a battle of top ten teams in Class 2A and it sure played like such as the ninth ranked Mustangs marched into A-D-M Stadium to match up against the seventh ranked Tigers. The match up included solid defense, great offense, a yellow card, and a whole lot of excitement.

Un-reflective of the end result, the first half was quite the defensive battle for both teams as A-D-M held Dallas Center-Grimes to a mere four shots on goal in the first half while the Mustangs held the Tigers to a mere three shots on goal in the first half. Despite all of that, both teams did manage to pitch in one goal each in the first half. The Mustangs fell behind early as host A-D-M connected on a goal just 37 seconds into the contest yet Dallas Center-Grimes would answer right back in minute number seven equalizing the game with Noah Websters fourth goal of the season.

Solid Mustang defense kept the Tigers away from the goal throughout the rest for the first half and both teams headed into the halftime break all tied up a 1-1.

The second half was a little more rocky for the Mustangs who saw themselves fall behind 3-1 after A-D-M posted up goals in the 49th and 52nd minutes. The Mustangs willed their way back into the game however dropping the Tiger lead to one with Alex Thompson’s second goal of the season with seven minutes left in the game. After A-D-M regained a two goal lead, the Mustangs would once again answer right back, doing so in the 76th minute with a Tucker Kiley goal to bring the score to 4-3 in favor of A-D-M.

Despite a heated attempt at another equalizer, the Mustangs would fall short and drop their second straight contest, bringing their overall record to 2-2. The Mustangs will have the comfort of regrouping at home for their next match up which will take place from DC-G Stadium today against Grinnell. The JV contest will kick things off beginning at 5:30 p.m. while the Varsity match up will begin at 7 p.m.
