In just their second home outing of the season, the Waukee girls’ tennis team endured some tough sledding as they fell to Dowling Catholic Tuesday night by an 8-3 final.

The Warriors had their two game winning streak snapped as Dowling picked up their seventh win of the year.

Waukee suffered losses in five singles matches with the only Warrior victory coming from Puja Mekala. Mekala remained unblemished in her set and match records after defeating Dowling Catholic’s Shannon Dougherty by a 6-1 set one win and a 6-3 set two win.

The doubles matches didn’t fair much better for the Warriors who saw their top three positions fall. The top pair of Elizabeth Messman and Allie Witte fell in two sets by two 6-2 finals. In the number two position, the tandem of Megan Severson and Morgan Seashore fell 6-1, and 6-2 while Lauren Wadle and Puja Mekala couldn’t find a victory falling in two sets as well 6-2, and 6-2.

The Warriors did find solace in two doubles victories first coming from the pair of Paige Kirschner and Brook Conover who bested the likes of Dowling Catholic’s Frannie Brown and Camille Weiss 6-2, and 6-4. Family lineage came into play as Audrey Messman paired up with Delaney Deering to earn Waukee’s second doubles win 6-3 and 6-4.

The Warriors now yield a record of 2-3 as they enter into a three match stretch this week including a rescheduled match up against Urbandale on Wednesday, April 25 at 3 p.m., a home match up against Ankeny High School on Thursday, April 26 at 4 p.m. and a road trip to Waveland Tennis Courts in Des Moines against Des Moines Roosevelt on Friday, April 27.
