The Dallas Center-Grimes track and field teams will be well represented at the 2018 Iowa High School state track meet.


On the girls’ side, the Fillies will be trotting out 13 events.


Ashley Murrow will be the representative in the 100 meter dash thanks to her time of 13.14 seconds.The girls’ Class 3A 100 meter dash event will take place on Thursday, May 17 at 4:30 p.m. Megan Sterbenz will take part in her first ever Drake Relays and will be doing so in the 400 meter dash event. Sterbenz will take part in the prelim races beginning Thursday at 7:10 p.m.


Although absent from the 800 and 1500 meter runs, the Fillies will be represented in the 3000 meter run with Natalie Paulson who’s already made a trip to the blue oval. Paulson qualified for state with a time of 11:21.92 and will run on Thursday, May 17 beginning at 3:35 p.m.


Sarah Frett will be involved in four events during the state meet including the 100 meter hurdles. Frett will join the field of 24 on Friday, May 18 beginning at 3:50 p.m. Carsyn Vance will also join that group after qualifying for the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.42 seconds.


Ally Ferguson will take part in the high jump event at the state meet. Ferguson qualified with a mark of 4’-10”. She will take on the event Thursday beginning at 4:30 p.m. Fellow teammate Sarah Frett will also be involved in the field events, doing so in the long jump event thanks to her qualifying jump of 16’-03”.


Both Aldina Husic and Amber Fistler made the 24 person field in the discus event as Husic qualified with a mark of 104’-09” and Fistler qualified with a mark of 100’-01”. The discus event will take place Thursday, May 17 at 2 p.m.


The DC-G girls’ will take on six relay events as well at the state meet. Those events include the 4x100 shuttle hurdle relay, the 4x200 meter relay, the 4x100 meter relay, the 4x400 meter relay, the 4x800 meter relay, and the sprint medley relay event.

On the boys side, the Mustangs will be sending 14 events onto the state track meet.


DC-G junior Rancy Freeman comes into the state track meet in the top spot after qualifying with a time of 10.91 seconds. He will take to the event on Thursday, May 17 at 6:52 p.m.


Sean Madsen and Cade Bertrand earned top five times in the state within the 200 meter dash to qualify for state. Madsen qualified with a time of 22 seconds even while Bertrand qualified with a time of 22.31 seconds. Both will take on the rest of the field beginning at 4:50 p.m. Monday, May 17.


The 800 meter dash will include a Mustang runner in Trent Meggers who qualified with a time of 2:03.57. Meggers will take on the event Saturday, May 19 beginning at 11:30 a.m.


Senior Jacob Waymire will be pulling double duty in the distance events after qualifying for both the 1600 and 3200 meter events. Waymire will take on the 1600 meter field Saturday beginning at 2:30 p.m. while taking on the 3200 meter field beginning Thursday at 4:05 p.m.


The Mustangs will have two representatives in the 110 meter hurdles in the form of Damon Clapper and Jeff Spaur who qualified for state with respective times of 15.33 seconds and 15.37 seconds. The 110 meter hurdle event will take place Friday, May 18 beginning at 3:30 p.m.


The last of the individual running events includes Garrett Skalnik in the 400 meter hurdles. Skalnik qualified with a time of 56.89 seconds. The 400 meter hurdle event is set to begin Friday at 5:10 p.m.


Damon Clapper and Jacob Comer will be the two Mustangs in the field events. Clapper qualified for the high jump event with a mark of 6’-03” while Comer qualified for the shot put event with a mark of 52’-01.50”. The shot put event is scheduled for Friday at 4:30 p.m while the high jump event will take place on Thursday, May 17 at 2 p.m.


The Mustangs will take on five relay evens at the state meet as well. Two of those meets come into the state track meet as the top one or two seeds in the state.


The 4x100 meter relay group of Sean Madsen, Tanner Epple, Cade Bertrand, and Rancy Freeman earned the second seed thanks to a time of 43.61 seconds. Meanwhile the 4x200 meter relay team of Madsen, Freeman, Thomas Erickson, and Bertrand comes into the state meet as the top seeded squad after a time of 1:30.19.


Other relay events for the Mustangs at state include the distance medley, the 4x110 shuttle hurdle relay, and the 800 sprint medley relay.
