In what was a heated battle of top ten ranked teams, the tenth ranked A-D-M softball team used a three run home run in the seventh to knock off the reigning champs and current top ranked Winterset Monday night.
The Tigers used eight hits including a pair of long balls to knock off the Huskies late by a 5-2 to avenge their loss in Winterset last season.
With the Tigers down 1-0 after the first inning, senior leader Ashley Tennant kicked off the Tiger scoring with her first home run of the season to left field, equalizing the game at 1-1. The back and forth game continued as right after the Tigers picked up their first lead of the game in the fourth, the Huskies tied the game up at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth.
That would mark the end of the scoring for the Huskies but not for the Tigers thanks to a three run blast by sophomore standout Sierra Wyant in the top of the seventh. That would bring the score up to a 5-2 A-D-M advantage, and thanks to lock down defense in the bottom half of the seventh, the Tigers would officially take the win.
Ashley Tennant led the way offensively with two hits in three trips to the plate, crossing the plate twice, while driving home one RBI. Inside the circle, Abbie Hlas picked up win number 12 out shining Winterset’s Sophie Stover. Hlas allowed just seven hits and one earned run through seven innings of work while dishing out nine strikeouts in the process. Hlas helped to strand nine Husky runners on base.
The tenth ranked Tigers are now 13-1 after the big win and will look to keep that momentum going with two games during the week before they hit their annual home tournament starting Friday, June 8 and running through Saturday, June 9 in Adel.
