Unfortunately the tides were not in favor of the Dallas Center-Grimes softball team last night as Class 5A’s fourth ranked Waukee Warriors downed the Fillies by a 10-1 final Tuesday night.
Hits were hard to come by for the Fillies who totaled just three all gamewith two of the three coming in the third inning. Riley Hall helped herself by punching in a single which set up Kamryn O’Brien for an RBI double to plate DC-G’s only run of the ball game. With the hit, O’Brien has now acquired a hit in all but two of the Fillies’ 15 games this season. At that time the Fillies cut the Warrior lead to a 3-1 advantage but that would quickly turn south for DC-G as Waukee erupted for a five run fifth inning. Waukee would hold Dallas Center-Grimes scoreless the rest of the game while picking up two more runs in the sixth to bring the score to its final resting place of 10-1.
Riley Hall would endure a rough outing giving up over seven hits and having her night end early as the Fillies trailed 7-1.
The Warriors held what has been a potent Dallas Center-Grimes offense averaging over four runs per game to just one on the night. That marks just the third time all season that the Fillies have been kept at one run or fewer in a game. The Fillies will have quite the task ahead of them going forward as eight of their next twelve scheduled opponents are ranked across Class 4A and Class 5A.
