The Dallas Center-Grimes baseball team looked poised and ready to break back into the win column Monday night, and they did just they taking a 4-2 win away from Pella Christian.
The Mustangs treated their hometown fans to a win before Mother Nature stole the show with a rain out in game two.
In the game that did conclude, the Mustangs used a four run second inning to take the one and only lead they would need for the game. Sophomore Colby Wigham drove in a two-run RBI double while junior Zack Beekman and senior Brandon Risius plated a run each with a pair of singles. In total, the Mustangs earned five hits in the game while walking four and were successful in two stolen base attempts.
Despite just the five hits, the Mustangs continued to show strength and consistency at the plate, something that head coach Byron Peyton talked about as keys to success for his team.
“This team has been a solid hitting team all season,” began Peyton. “We’ve always been able to hit the ball but lately we’ve been able to put the ball in play and do it by putting ourselves in the right positions. We’ve worked the count and made the opposing pitchers come to us and not the other way around. That’s going to be big for us moving forward.”
Logan Smith put up the win on the mound with a mere two runs allowed on eight hits and seven strikeouts.
The Mustangs are now 6-11 on the year and will march on with their season tonight at home. They will welcome in a one game match up against Des Moines Roosevelt at 7 p.m. from Dallas Center.
