After an exciting come from behind win against Syracuse on Friday, June 29, the Nebraska City seniors created separation in this contest by downing Syracuse 10-4 behind Garrett Bassinger's 10 strikeouts on Tuesday, July 3, at Syracuse.
Nebraska City jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead when Trent Fahey hit a two RBI double that scored Bassinger and Dylan Knoell.
Syracuse answered back in the bottom half of the first, and the bases loaded, Mitchell McWilliams hit a bases clearing double to give Syracuse a 3-2 edge.
Clay Stovall tied the game when he hit an infield single that scored Tyler Levy from third and Bassinger reached on an error that scored Knoell, and NC had a 4-3 advantage.
Izaak Prater hit a single that scored Christian Frederick in the second inning, but that is all Syracuse would score throughout the rest of the game as Bassinger took control.
In the fifth inning Stovall stood on third base and Alex Breazile hit a deep fly ball to center and Stovall tagged up and scored to give NC a 5-4 lead.
Stovall came up again and hit an RBI single in the sixth to score Levy and NC continued to move runners by playing small ball in the seventh.
After a solid single by Breazile and a walk by Becker, Bryce Levy laid down a nicely executed bunt to advance the runners. Tyler Levy scored Becker and Breazile on a ground ball to third base.
With the score 9-4, Knoell would later score a passed ball, as NC won 10-4.
Clay Stovall was 4-for-5 with four singles, two RBI, and one run scored.
