Van Meter football snapped Pella Christian’s 19 game regular-season winning streak on Friday, Aug. 31 when they beat the Eagles 27-7.


In a game that saw great effort from Van Meter, the Bulldogs never trailed and ended with a total of 344 rushing yards.


Ian Abrahamson rushed 211 yards before the game was over and Anthony Potthoff was responsible for rushing 109 yards. The last time two Bulldogs rushed past the century mark in a single game was in 2013.


More offensive skill came from Abrahamson as the game went on. In just his second game as a starter, the young Bulldog came out with a total of 30 carries.


Van Meter matched their skill level on the defensive side of the game by keeping the Eagles offense at a total of 209 yards.


Next week Van Meter travels to Madrid to take on the Tigers on Friday, Sept. 7 beginning at 7 p.m. Madrid leads the overall series 23-7, but Van Meter has won four straight. In last season’s meeting the Bulldogs shut out the Tigers with a final score of 42-0.
