T-minus one day until perhaps one of the biggest meets of the season for the Waukee girls’ swimming and diving team.

On Saturday, September 8th, the Warriors will embark upon the Linn-Mar Aquatic Center for the Linn-Mar Invitational. Waukee will be among eleven other schools in attendance.

On the surface, this meet looks like just another meet but in actuality, there’s even more importance involved.

“This is a huge meet for us just based on the number of top tier teams involved,” began Warrior head coach Shelly Twigg. “This type of meet can really help us gauge where we are at and what combinations work and don’t work. It will really show us what we need to work on in time for us to be at our best come regionals and state.”

The level of competition will definitely be high as all but two teams in attendance will be returners from last year’s state meet.

Of all the aspects that excite coach Twigg about the Linn-Mar Invite, the biggest excitement will be the evaluation of a certain aspect of the team.

“I am looking forward to how well our relay teams stack up against the best of the best,” said Twigg. “It’s been a big strength of ours this year and this will be the ultimate test. We’ve put a lot of work into our relay teams during the summer and it’s exciting to see how they will perform on such a big stage.”

The Linn-Mar Invitational on Saturday will begin with diving at 9 a.m. followed by swimming events at 12:30 p.m. from the Linn-Mar Aquatic Center.
