It was a mixed outcome for the Waukee volleyball team over the weekend as they took on a four team field at Southeast Polk High School on Saturday, September 8.

The Warriors split their weekend endeavor taking victories over Oskaloosa and Des Moines East while falling to both Ankeny Centennial and Cedar Rapids Jefferson.

Perhaps the smoothest match for the Warrior volleyball team came against Des Moines East with a quick two set win. Set one was a fast start and and even faster finish for Waukee who stole set one 21-4 while putting up a similar performance in the second set 21-6. Waukee also took care of Oskaloosa for the other of their two wins with another two set victory. The Warriors took set one easily 21-9 but set two found a more competitive balance yet still they won 21-17 with a big 20 assist match from Kaitlyn Severson.

The two losses for the Warriors were on the other end of the spectrum, falling in both two sets to none. The Ankeny Centennial match up was close in both sets but Centennial pulled out late in both sets winning 21-19 and 21-14. All despite a ten kill performance from Haley Bush. The Cedar Rapids Jefferson contest was a little tougher for the Warriors who fell in identical fashion in both sets 25-14.

Throughout the tournament, Haley Bush paced the way in kills with over 17 while Kaitlyn Severson and Kelsy Plumb led the way in assists on the day. Bush also made her mark in the digs category with eleven through just three matches while sophomore Layanna Green led the way in aces for the tournament.

The Warriors are now 10-8 on the season and dropped just one spot in the latest Class 4A volleyball rankings. They will have quite a bit of rest before they hit the competitive court once more. They will get the chance to host a weekend tournament on Saturday, September 15. It will be another multiple team field with the Warriors set to take on West Marshall and Sergeant Bluff-Luton.
