Count it a more than successful day for both Dallas Center-Grimes cross country teams Monday evening as both earned top two finishes in the Little Hawkeye Conference meet.

Held at a soggy Edmundson Park in Oskaloosa, the Fillies and the Mustangs battled it out within a tough conference that sent five teams to the state meet last season. On the girls side, no one was better than the Fillies who claimed the conference crown. The sixth ranked Fillies posted up 51 points aided by three top ten finishers and six top 30 finishers. The Fillies bested fourth ranked Pella by eight points to take the title.

Sophomore Megan Sterbenz paced the Fillies with a time of 21:08.1 and a third place finish. Hanna Little followed close behind with one of her best performances of the year, clocking in at 21:10.8 placing her fourth overall. Sophomore Emma Angus put up a performance to remember, clocking in at 21:40.2 to give her a ninth place finish. For their efforts placing inside the top ten, Sterbenz, Little, and Angus all received All-Conference Team honors. Miranda Muhlstein and Lara Kallem rounded out the scoring with 17th and 18th place finishes respectively out of 149 total runners. The success also extended to the junior varsity division where the junior Fillies also won their division.

The DC-G boys team narrowly missed a conference sweep as they took second with 55 points, just seven points off of first place Indianola. The Mustangs collected a team time of 1:31:25.9 and an average team time of 18:17.2. In similar fashion to the Fillies, the DC-G boys team collected three top ten finishes but also acquired seven top thirty finishes. Bradley Ramsey led the Mustangs in nearly every meet for the Mustangs in 2018, including the past three meet, and did it once more, pacing the Mustang pack with a fourth place finish overall. Ramsey’s final time clocked in at 17:45.7, just over a minute off of his state meet time last season. Tyler Borneman claimed fifth place thanks to a time of 17:55.0, his second top ten finish in the last three meets. Brock Wolf earned his first top ten finish in the past three meet by placing ninth with a time of 18:12.7. Ramsey, Borneman, and Wolf were rewarded with All-Conference Team honors. The scoring for the Mustangs was rounded out with Jacob Storey and Blake Croushore placing 17th and 20th respectively.

Both the Fillies and the Mustangs now eagerly await their state qualifying meet assignments which will take place on October 18. The state meet will take place on October 27 in Fort Dodge.
