Brandon Brittain and Ben Flaherty connected for three touchdowns in a 37-7 Van Meter victory at Central Decatur on Sept. 27.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 5-0 and are ranked 10th in the latest Associated Press poll. They will face off against No. 7 Mount Ayr on Friday.

Brittain completed 14-of-20 passes for 201 yards. All three of Flaherty’s grabs went for touchdowns on catches of six, 14 and 32 yards that put Van Meter up 21-0 early in the third quarter.

Bryce Godwin kicked a 27-yard field goal, and both Brennan Dostal and Cody Blackwell added rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Dostal ran for a team-high 53 yards on nine carries, while Blackwell finished with 48 yards.

Grant Hoppes had two interceptions to pace the defense while Flaherty added a third. Chase Wyant had seven tackles, and both Spencer Benton and Parker Suckow finished with six.

Friday’s matchup with Mount Ayr features two of the top scoring teams in Class 1A. The Bulldogs are seventh in scoring, the Raiders eighth. Quarterback Jacob Sobotka has thrown for 721 yards and 10 touchdowns, and run for 493 yards and five scores.

Mount Ayr beat Van Meter 25-13 last season.
