The Van Meter softball team pounded out 20 hits and scored 11 runs in the third inning to wallop Guthrie Center 18-1 on Monday.

Four players had three-hit games: Bailey Richards, who drove in four runs; Hope Connor, who doubles twice and drove in three; and Leasha Porter, who scored twice and drove in two. Casey Jamison, Kila Carbine, Kendall Anderson and Nicole Meyer all had two hits, with Meyer driving in three runs.

Carbine got the win, striking out five and surrendering one run on five hits in four innings of work.

The Bulldogs, who dropped a 3-2 decision at Collins-Maxwell/Baxter on Tuesday, were also on the losing end of a 5-4 decision against North Union on June 8 and a 5-0 loss to Des Moines Chrisitan on June 6. Connor drove in two against North Union and Ali Flaherty had two doubles while Richard collected three hits.

Connor was 2-for-3 against the Lions. Carbine allowed five runs, but only one earned, in two innings, and Anderson pitched five scoreless innings of relief.

The Bulldogs scored six runs in the second and blanked West Marshall 10-0 on June 5. Richards was 4-for-4 with a double and four runs scored, Connor collected three hits and drove in three, and Anderson had three hits and two RBIs. Carbine allowed just three hits in the five-inning victory.
