The Van Meter baseball team landed four first-team all-West Central Activities Conference selections.

The Bulldogs, who posted a 19-1 conference mark and reached the Class 1A semifinals, also had the lone unanimous pick by the conference’s coaches: junior Brandon Brittain. The shortstop hit .555 with a .686 on-base percentage and a 1.067 slugging percentage. He had 66 hits, including nine doubles and 16 homers, and drove in 68 runs.

Also named to the first team were pitcher Zach Prouty, infielder Jake Chevalier and outfielder Drake Doud. Prouty was 9-1 with a 1.58 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 71 innings. Chevalier hit .413 with one home run and 42 RBIs, and Doud hit .296 with six home runs and 37 knocked in.

Bulldog catcher Ben Engstrand was named to the second team. He hit .390 with a .493 OBP, 56 hits and drove in 30 runs. He also threw out 11 of 35 attempted stealers.

Woodward-Granger’s Tyler Wiedner and Andrew McCune were also named to the second team. Wiedner, who will play baseball at Dordt College in Sioux Center, was 9-1 with a 1.26 ERA. HE struck out 60 in 61 innings and limited opponents to a .179 average. McCune hit .494 and slugged .775 with four home runs, 13 doubles and 31 RBIs.

Honorable mentions went to Van Meter’s Jake Eslick and Jeremy Helmick, and W-G’s Jake Smiley and Chris McConahay.
