Austin Dunbar and James Orf landed in the top 10, helping Van Meter to a fourth-place team finish at the West Central Activities Conference meet in Panora on Oct. 17.

Dunbar finished third in 18 minutes, 11 seconds, trailing only the Ogden duo of Trey Thompson (17:42) and Andrew Stumbo (18:10). Orf was 10th overall, with an 18:53 finish.

Ty Thomas finished 28th in 20:00, Will Seiler was 31st in 20:03 and David Brangoccio was 35th in 20:13. Also running were Michael Kinley, who was 44th, and John Maher, who was 61st.

Van Meter finished with a team score of 97, trailing Panorama (47), Ogden (71) and Earlham (89). Despite a 1-2 finish, Ogden did not dislodge the Panthers from the top spot, as Panorama put its scoring five in the top 13.

In the girls’ race, the Bulldogs finished fifth. Sarah Koch led Van Meter with a 15th-place finish in 18:08. Grace Seiler was 29th in 20:38, Maddie Allen was 33rd in 20:59, Emma Skahill was 38th in 22:50 and Jennifer Banks was 39th in 22:50. Melinda Davis finished 44th.

Panorama won with a team score of 43, followed by West Central Valley (54), Earlham (61) and Madrid (73). Van Meter logged a team score of 124.

The Bulldogs travel Thursday to a Class 1A state-qualifying meet at Eagle Grove. The top three teams and 10 individuals in each race advance to the state meet in Fort Dodge on Nov. 2.
