Dallas Center-Grimes came away with a pair of third-place finishes at its Little Hawkeye Conference meet debut on Monday in Grinnell.
The Mustangs posted a spread of just 18 seconds to finish with 104 points, behind Pella (32) and Grinnell (62). Chad Connelly was 18th in 17:45, Carsen Kurth was 20th in 17:59, Colin Martin was 21st in 18:00 and both Nick Smith (22nd) and Jared Brevard (23rd) finished in 18:02. Also running were Jacob Cline, who was 27th, and Blake Schaben, who was 31st.
The Fillies were led by Madison Waymire, who was sixth in 15:37, and Sydnee Hendricks, who was 10th in 16:27. Emma Bravard was 14th in 16:32, Kirsten Lundy was 22nd in 17:05 and Jessica Pugh was 26th in 17:16. Also running were Brooke Jacobsen, who was 27th, and Jaymie Block, who was 32nd.
The team finished with a score of 78, narrowly edging Grinnell (79) for third place. Pella won with a 35 and Oskaloosa was second with a 59.
Dallas Center-Grimes will take part in a Class 3A state-qualifying meet at Winterset on Oct. 24. The field also includes A-D-M, Atlantic, Ballard, Creston, Glenwood, Harlan, Humboldt, Madrid, PErry, Saydel and Shenandoah/Essex.
