The Dallas Center-Grimes softball team just keeps proving why it’s the No. 1 team in Class 4A, and has been all season long as they swept Oskaloosa at home in the final two games of the regular season before the regional tournament. The Fillies defeated Oskaloosa in the first game by a score of 3-0 and opened up the scoring more in game two, winning 8-0.

In game one, the Fillies scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the third inning and held Oskaloosa silent to get the shutout win. Jackie Peyton, Allison O’Brien and Brooke Kramer scored the runs for the Fillies in game one.

O’Brien also had a triple while Rachel Lowary had three stolen bases. Paige Lowary struck out 13 batters and allowed just two hits in the win, her 16th of the year.

In game two, no one player scored more than one run in the game. Rachel Lowary, Peyton and Taylor Draisey had two RBIs each though.

Rachel Lowary pitched in game two and allowed three hits and struck out seven batters, getting the shutout win. The win puts her record at 14-0 on the year.

The Fillies open up regional tournament play on Saturday night against either Perry or Harlan in Dallas Center. The game will begin at 7 p.m.


The Fillies swept Knoxville on the road on Monday.

In game one, a 10-0 win, Paige Lowary struck out nine batters and got the win in the circle and also went 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, a triple and two RBIs, while Abby Larson, who was the courtesy runner for Lowary scored three runs.

Rachel Lowary went 3-for-3 at the plate and also scored three runs and had three RBIs. Peyton had a homer, two runs and three RBIs.

Rachel Lowary got the start in the circle in game two and the Fillies only needed three innings to be declared the winners in that game as they went on to win 12-0. Lowary struck out four batters and allowed just one hit in the win.

Peyton had two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. O’Brien also scored two runs in game two.


The Fillies kept just one loss on record after two very close wins on Thursday against Urbandale and Indianola. The Fillies won both games in Dallas Center by a score of 1-0.

In the first game, Larson of DC-G, a pinch runner for Dani Heritage, scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on the RBI by Kramer to lift the Fillies past Urbandale.

Paige Lowary struck out 14 batters and allowed just one hit in the game.

It only took the original seven innings for the Fillies to beat Indianola by the same score. It was O’Brien who scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the fifth inning on the RBI by Heritage.

Rachel Lowary struck out eight batters and allowed just one hit in the circle as she picked up the win.
