A long trip, an overnight stay and competition against Class 4A and 5A schools awaited the Woodward-Granger volleyball team at the North Scott Invitational Saturday.
The Hawks bumped into solid teams at the invite, with an 0-4 outcome the result. W-G fell to Burlington, 22-20, 22-20 before falling to host North Scott in three games, 21-18, 18-21 and 15-7. Class 4A No. 8 Cedar Rapids Xavier downed W-G 21-10, 21-10, with the Hawks handed a narrow 21-14, 16-21 15-13 loss against Davenport West.
Abby Musser led W-G with 23 combined kills, with Bree Lesch adding nine kills, Cailin Coker seven, Olivia McCune five, Abby Hansen four and Dalaney Bice one. Mary Hansen contributed 22 assists and Maggie Bermel 16 to aid the offense.
Musser’s 57 digs was a team-best, with Tori Manning providing 54 digs and Lesch 45 to highlight the defense, with Anny Hansen making four blocks, McCune and Bice two each and Musser one.
Lesch served 34-of-36 with six aces, with McCune 25-28-3 and Musser 24-28-1 behind the line. Manning was 25-25-2 serving, with Mary Hansen 23-of-25 while Bermel was 14-of-14 with one ace.
W-G was also in action Sept. 12 when they paid a visit to Ogden for WCC action. The Hawks streaked to a 25-13 win in game one, held on for a 25-23 game two win and completed the 3-0 sweep with a 25-20 victory in game three.
Musser had nine kills and Lesch six, with Coker and Abby Hansen tallying four kills apiece while Bice had one kill. Abby Hansen turned away four attacks with blocks at the net, with Bice making two blocks and Coker and Lesch one each while Bermel provided 13 assists and Mary Hansen nine.
McCune served 17-19-3, Lesch 13-14-3, Manning 13-13-2 and Mary Hansen 11-13-1, with Musser 10-10-2 and Bermel 4-of-6.
