Woodward-Granger failed to score on repeated trips inside the Ogden 20-yard line and it eventually came back to haunt the Hawks, as a fourth quarter score was all the host Bulldogs needed to post a 7-0 win in non-district football in Ogden on Aug. 30.
Ogden rushed for 258 yards on 39 carries and found the end zone when Austin Lentz turned inside the corner, made a man miss and sprinted approximately 40 yards to pay dirt midway through the final frame. Kolton Christle’s PAT boot added the final point.
Jake West had 91 yards on 18 rushes for the hosts, with Lentz going for 72 yards on eight runs while Luke West added 70 yards on seven carries to key the ground game.
Senior Caleb Fry was 9-13-1 for 93 yards passing, with Luke West leading the Ogden receivers with six catches for 76 yards.
Marshall Nieland had 84 yards on 10 rushes before leaving the game. Dylan Garland added 65 yards on 14 hauls, with Cole Ashman (8-22), Race Brant (2-15) and Dylan Nixon (6-11) also carrying the ball for the Hawks.
Junior Cole Ashman was 3-13-2 for 42 yards in the air. He hit Tanner Canova twice for 37 total yards and Brant once for five yards.
Jimmy Harney led W-G with 11 tackles, with Nixon adding nine stops and Canova and Lane Kooiker eight apiece. Harney and Kooiker had sacks, with Harney and Canova each making four tackles for loss while Brant landed on one fumble and returned an interception 21 yards.
Henry Haglund had a game-high 16 tackles for the Bulldogs, with Grant Heineman making three tackles for a loss. Jake West and Brian Cole each had an interception, with Cole also recovering a W-G fumble.
W-G visits Des Moines Christian on Friday to battle the Lions, who fell to Madrid, 30-7, last week.
