The W-G matmen played host to Martensdale-St. Marys and PCM for a triangular meet Tuesday, with the hosts splitting their matches.

W-G was a 57-16 winner over M-SM, with PCM topping their hosts, 50-18, and also defeating M-SM, 66-18.

The short-handed Blue Devils left numerous weight classes open in both of their duals, including granting eight forfeits to the Hawks, as Kaleb Noel (113 pounds), Jimmy Harney (132), Race Brant (145), Tanner Vermaas (152), Collen Gibbons (160), Dylan Nixon (195), Josh Groves (220) and Ryan Hodges (285) simply had to walk onto the mat to receive a victory.

M-SM received a forfeit at 182, with both teams leaving the 106-pound bout open. That left just four matches to be contested, which the teams split.

Colton Milosevich pinned Jake Patron in 1 minute, 22 seconds at 120 pounds to score six points for the Hawks, with Aaron Sperling scoring three points by winning an 8-6 decision against Nash Wiegert at 138.

W-G suffered a 17-4 major decision loss at 126 and a loss by fall at 170 to account for the remainder of the scoring.

The Hawks scored all 18 of their points against the Mustangs on pinfall wins.

Milosevich stuck Reece Broderson’s shoulders to the mat in 1:44 at 120, Sperling overcame James Maggard with a pin at 138 in 5:13 and Hodges pinned Trent Malone in 2:37 at 285 to provide the only Hawk victories.

W-G will travel to Guthrie Center Tuedsay for the WCC Tournament, then return to Guthrie Center Saturday for the Tiger Invitational, which will end their regular season.

The Hawks will wrestle Feb. 8 in the North Polk sectional meet, with the team assigned to the district meet in Adel Feb. 15.
