Woodward-Granger finished a season sweep of the Woodward Academy with an 8-0 win Monday in West Central Activities Conference action.
The Hawks got off to a fast start by plating four runs in the bottom of the first inning. A single tally followed in the second, with three additional runs crossing the place in the third.
That was more than enough offense for W-G starter Chris McConahay, who held the Knights scoreless on just three hits and two walks while striking out 12 for the complete-game victory on the bump.
Mike Connor had three hits for the Hawks, with Andrew McCune belting two doubles while Race Brant and Dylan Garland added two hits apiece and Jake Smiley one. McCune and Garland each had two RBIs, with Connor and Tyler Wiedner also driving in runs.
Brant, Connor and Wiedner had two stolen bases apiece as the Hawks finished with nine steals.
West Central Valley turned a 3-1 lead after two innings into a 9-2 edge after four frames en route to a 17-3 six-inning win in WCC play June 13.
W-G added a run in the fifth, but eight runs from the Wildcats in the top of the sixth set the stage for the game to end early.
Garland was roughed up for six runs (four of them unearned) on four hits and two walks in 2-2/3 innings in taking the loss. Smiley yielded seven runs (six earned) on five hits and four walks in 2-2/3 frames, with Teig Loge touched for four unearned runs on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning. Garland struck out three batters and Smiley and Loge two each.
Smiley had a double and scored twice, with Brant adding a double and a single while Connor had two hits. McCune, Connor and Wiedner supplied the RBIs for the Hawks, with Alex Bodermann scoring the other run.
