GRANGER – In the midst of a two-game losing streak, the Woodward-Granger baseball team will try to get back on the winning side of the playing field before districts next week.
The Hawks dropped a 10-0 decision on the road at Van Meter June 24 and later lost to Ogden 17-8.
The June 30 game against Panorama at Panora was cancelled due to the servere weather and improbable playing conditions. No make-up date has yet been determined.
With a busy first week of July set for the team, the Hawks will have to fight in order to stay above .500, currently owning an overall record of 9-10. The Hawks will round out the regular season next week with matchups against Van Meter (July 7), Collins-Maxwell/Baxter (June 8) and at Gilbert (June 9).
Junior catcher Mike Connor leads the team offensively in batting average (.463), hits (25) and RBIs (16). Two other Hawks’ batters are hitting above .300: Sophomore Race Brant (.365) and senior Jake Smiley (.339).
On the mound, junior Alex Bodermann leads the staff at 3-0 and an ERA of 2.15. He has struck out 25 batters despite walking 23 in 26.0 innings pitched.
